Last Sunday, I decided to get the ball rolling on a newsletter. Within a few minutes, I crafted a name for it. This was a momentous achievement for me. Determining the title for anything I write is usually the most difficult - and final - task accomplished before hitting the publish button.
Not this time. I came up with “Talkin’ Mariners” within a matter of minutes. Gosh, I was so proud of myself. But that all changed a few days later when I noticed the Seattle Sports Radio 710 hot stove podcast is called “Talking Mariners.” Not exactly the same, but too close for my comfort.
Realizing a change was necessary, I first reached out to Brent Stecker and Shannon Drayer to apologize for using a similar title. Both Brent and Shannon were extremely gracious. To be honest, I don’t think they cared. But I did and that’s all that matters.
And the new name of the newsletter?
I’m rolling with an offshoot of a moniker bestowed upon me by former 710 host Paul Gallant. Paul occasionally referred to me as the “Baseball Consigliere.” I always liked that, so the newsletter will be called “Mariners Consigliere” from this day forward.
Jason A. Churchill has kindly offered to help me create a banner and maybe a new log for the newsletter’s home page. This is a good thing because I’m worse at art than coming up with titles. So, don’t be surprised if the home page’s appearance morphs within a few days. But the name ain’t changing.
As far as actual content about the Mariners, you’ll receive something in your email inbox sometime tomorrow.
Enjoy your Saturday evening and the Apple Cup!
